Thumb Suckers

Charlie recently discovered his hands, and we're starting to wonder if he's going to be a thumb sucker like his big brother, Grant. We're still swaddling him at night and during naps, but his hands go straight to his mouth as soon as he's free from the swaddle. And every once in awhile, his little thumb works its way into his mouth. Aside from all the drool, we find this very cute right now. Maybe not so much when we're paying for braces...times two.

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope they'll always love each other as much as they do right now.

Charlie at 3 Months

It would be nice if time would slow down a little bit. Charlie is already 3 months, already out of the newborn stage. He's still an easy-going baby who loves being held, read to and snuggled.

What's new:
  • Charlie is full of smiles and occasional laughter.
  • He loves to be held.
  • He's discovered his hands and loves to suck on them.
  • He's starting to grasp toys and concentrates hard on getting them into his mouth.
  • He's moved from sleeping in a bassinet in our room to sleeping in the bassinet in his own room.
  • He goes to bed between 7:30 and 8, wakes once a night to nurse(or sometimes not at all), and goes back to sleep until 7 or 8.
  • When I go in to pick him up from a nap, he stops crying and smiles at me.
  • Of the three boys, he's the only one who has taken to a pacifier.
  • When we talk to him, he coos back at us.
  • He's still mostly bald, with little wispy blond hairs starting to come in.
  • He looks a little like Grant and a little like Miles as a baby. But he really has his very own look.
  • I went back to work last week, which was naturally an adjustment for both of us. But he's in good hands with Jamie, and that makes everything so much easier.

Christmas Break

Our Christmas was anything but quiet, with two energetic boys home for two weeks and a needy newborn. It was nice in a way to have nowhere we needed to go, instead enjoying toys and time together. That's not to say I wasn't thrilled when Christmas break was over.

We made a gingerbread house, which Grant and Miles begged to eat every single day they were home.

We played lots of games.

No sprinkle was left behind when we baked cookies.

We spent hours upon hours building Legos.

Charlie spent a lot of time being carried in the Ergo so I could have my hands free.

We managed to take a few walks in the neighborhood thanks to mild December weather.

Around December 23, I told the boys that, unfortunately, we weren't going to have a white Christmas this year. There was no snow in the forecast. And then on Christmas Eve morning, it started to snow, covering just enough of the ground to make it feel festive.

Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Alex and Stephanie arrived on Christmas Eve to spend the long weekend with us, but somehow I managed to not take any family pictures.

Christmas morning was a typical flurry of present opening and excitement over new toys.

Other than Legos, Miles is currently obsessed with remote controls and things that transform. So this remote-controlled transforming robot was perfect.

And Grant's love of Ninja Turtles was satisfied with a giant turtle lair and Turtle Legos.

Charlie seemed happy to have extra people to rock him and brothers to snuggle.
