Take Your Miles to Work Day

Miles recently got the idea that he wanted to go to work with Dad, so Kent agreed that last Friday would make a good day to visit. Miles was so excited that he got up about an hour earlier than normal, around 6:30 a.m., and skipped into our room: "I get to go to work with Daddy today!" He bounced back to his room to pick out his outfit: a button-down shirt, striped shorts, striped socks and a tie—of course. "I'm ready," he announced when Kent was still in bed.

His only tie is about three inches too short.

After picking up a box of donuts for the office, they were off to work. The report at the end of the morning was good: Miles said he made new friends, ate two donuts (one chocolate and one with sprinkles) and drew a picture with assorted colors of highlighter and pen. It was a productive first morning of work for Miles.

Grant and Miles are lucky to have such an amazing, loving, fun and silly dad—and two phenomenal grandfathers—in their lives.

More Spring Developments

Miles has graduated from the baby swing to the big boy swing this year. This is no exaggeration—he would gladly let us push him on the swing for hours at a time. The higher you push him, the wider his grin.

And he's now confidently cruising around the neighborhood on Grant's old balance bike. He has no fear, and will glide down steep hills yelling "wheeeee." 

Life is literally and figuratively moving at amazing speeds these days.

We're Growing Things

Spring brought a lovely display of colors to our yard.

The rhododendrons and daffodils have already come and gone.

The redbud trees brought an impressive splash of color to the neighborhood.

Our amazing tree peonies, with blooms the size of saucers, made their debut.

And we're growing a human...This little pumpkin is due in October.

Memorial Day Weekend in Chicago

We had a nice time visiting Grandma and Grandpa in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend. We went to Brookfield Zoo, the Little Red Schoolhouse and the Garfield Park Conservatory, and visited just about every playground in Grandma and Grandpa's new, leafy suburb.

 At the Brookfield Zoo, we checked out butterfly garden.

Grant was so happy to find lemurs, one of many favorite animals. 

At the Little Red Schoolhouse, a nature center south of the city, the boys climbed over a fort made of sticks, looked for frogs and collected leaves and sticks. It was a little boys' paradise.

We also test-drove many playgrounds in La Grange Park, with the boys declaring each one was their favorite.

Grandma found these parachutes for the boys, possibly the best toy ever. Dropping them off of slides and other high places consumed much of the weekend.

And we flew kites with Grandpa, which Miles thought was especially fun. 

G cruised the neighborhood on his bike. 

 And both boys mastered the art of the monkey bars--with a little help from Dad.

It was a fun start to summer for these growing, active boys.
