Riding the Rails

Our choo-choo train lover got a special treat last weekend, taking a ride on Thomas the Tank Engine.

The special train took off from Boone, about an hour northwest of us. It was a gloomy, rainy day, but our train car was filled with happy toddler boys.

His first real train ride was a hit.

Miles enjoyed it too...Here he is getting kisses from his brother.

1 Month Baby M

Here's the first in what will be a series of monthly photos. Miles is a little more than 10 lbs. and already in 3-6 month clothes, still giving us lots of smiles and sleeping well at night. We're loving this little guy.

I picked him up in the middle of the night, and he flashed me one of these. My heart melted.

Conversations With G: 2 Years, 4 months

We're having true conversations these days! Here's the transcript of a recent one:

Me: "What did you do at school today?"
G: "I share! I do animals. I had a snack! I eat bananas."
Me: "Wow. Sounds like fun."
G: "I want an apple. I want ABC [cookies]. I want grapes."
Me: "I thought you had a snack Are you still hungry?"
G: "Yes, Mommy."
Me: "Would you like an apple?"
G: "Nooooooooo!" (pause) "Alright. Ok."

4 Weeks

I can't believe I was carrying this guy around inside of me just over four weeks ago.

Jester Park

After a very long, very hot summer, we've finally been able to enjoy cooler temperatures and time outside. Last weekend we took a short drive to Jester Park, a mecca of camping, hiking and other outdoorsy activities.

We checked out the "natural playscape," essentially a playground made out of tall grasses and rocks. G thought it was great fun to run through the grasses chasing Kent, a game G calls "run away again." ("This is what we used to do for fun in the olden days, son, before iPads and DVR-ed episodes of Sesame Street.")

The park also features elk and buffalo herds in an enclosed area. Amazing that these guys used to roam the land freely in masses.

G and Kent went for a hike on one of the many trails while I fed Baby Miles. It's not always easy to get out and about these days -- between feedings and naps -- but this was a nice excursion on a lovely late-summer day.

Tough Guys
